Hi neighbors! Some local volunteers put together a list of resources available for people worried about ICE in our neighborhood. Please visit linktr.ee/hopkinsresources for information about legal rights EVERYONE has regardless of immigration status, food shelves, immigration attorneys (including low cost assistance), and phone numbers to call if ICE is outside or has taken someone.
Free whistles and "know your rights" red cards are available at Cream & Amber coffee shop on 16th Ave and Mainstreet, on the left side of the door when you go inside. These items are made and donated by volunteers, so may not be available every day. If you're not comfortable going outside right now, I can also get whistles and cards printed in any language for you, and may be able to connect you with other assistance networks. Please reach out to the office for my secure email address or slide a note through my door at #208 in the B building. Papers can usually fit through the side of my door, instead of underneath.
Please remember - don't prop our outside doors open or let anyone you don't know into the building or garage! Agents are not always dressed like military. If ICE is confirmed to be outside, safely alert your neighbors and call MONARCA at 612-441-2881 to request legal observers.
I am not a lawyer so this is not legal advice, but if an agent is at your door, you have the right to remain silent. Do not answer the door or acknowledge them. If you do talk to them, do not lie if they ask you a question - just say out loud, or show the agent by sliding your 'know your rights' red card under your door or through a window, that you will not answer any questions without a lawyer. They cannot legally enter your home without an unexpired judicial warrant signed by a judge (NOT an ICE, CBP, or DHS agent!) naming the specific person they are looking for at your exact address.
Hopkins is an amazing community because of all of us! Stay safe, and we will get through this together.

I haven't been seeing my beloved neighbors out & about, this last week and such. I understand why, and it is so sad. 151 on 8th is a beautifully diverse community reflecting Hopkins and America itself. We are living in scary times for many of our neighbors and I feel the need to share:
Please let me know, if you need food delivered to your doorstep, or call ICA
There are also other organizations that are collecting food & supplies for families that are afraid to venture out, or open their door - they will deliver food to your doorstep.
KNOW YOUR RIGHTS
https://unidos-mn.org/know-your-rights
Learn how you can protect yourself if something happens to you or a loved one.
Your constitutional rights:
DO NOT OPEN THE DOOR - You have the right not to open the door if an immigration officer is knocking. Do not open the door, as this can be seen as permission to enter your home.
DO NOT ANSWER ANY QUESTIONS - You have the right to remain silent and not answer any questions from an immigration officer if they try to talk to you.
DO NOT SIGN ANYTHING - Do not sign anything before talking to a lawyer. You have the right to speak with a lawyer.
IF YOU'RE OUTSIDE YOUR HOUSE - If you’re outside your home, ask the agent if you are free to leave, and if they say yes, you can walk away safely.
USE YOUR RED CARD
If you’re inside your house, show this card through the window or slide it under a closed door. Do not open the door, as this can be seen as permission to enter your home.
